{"id":1080,"date":"2014-12-26T17:31:34","date_gmt":"2014-12-26T22:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/?p=1080"},"modified":"2014-12-26T17:38:59","modified_gmt":"2014-12-26T22:38:59","slug":"chocolate-sauce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/?p=1080","title":{"rendered":"Chocolate Sauce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/chocosauce.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1086\" src=\"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/chocosauce-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"chocosauce\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/chocosauce-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/chocosauce.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ll ever buy chocolate sauce again.\u00a0 I found a very good <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitchentreaty.com\/homemade-chocolate-syrup\/\" target=\"_blank\">recipe<\/a> for it and modified it.\u00a0 Instead of using sugar, I use Splenda (1:1 ratio).\u00a0 It truly is fantastic and I find it thicker and chocolatier than Hershey&#8217;s, for example.\u00a0 I made a double batch of it and it yielded about a half litre.\u00a0 I used it in my homemade\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/?p=1075\" target=\"_blank\">Irish Cream<\/a> \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 So here&#8217;s my take on it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 cup good quality unsweetened cocoa powder (I used Fry&#8217;s)<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 cup Splenda (1:1 ratio)<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 cup cold water<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 teaspoon kosher salt (I used course grey salt)<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1 tablespoon vanilla extract<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preparation:<\/p>\n<p>In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar until blended. Add the water and 1\/4 teaspoon of the salt, and whisk over medium heat until boiling, stirring constantly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"instruction\">Continue boiling until mixture thickens, about 3 &#8211; 4 minutes. The mixture will still be fairly thin (it thickens to a syrup-like consistency once cool). Taste and stir in additional salt until dissolved, up to 1\/4 teaspoon, if desired.<\/p>\n<p class=\"instruction\">Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Cool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"instruction\">Store syrup in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator.
