Mmmmmm!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so I finally decided to try making bagels.\u00a0 OMG why haven&#8217;t I done this sooner????\u00a0 Seriously, I&#8217;m not buying my bagels ever again! \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 I like slightly smaller bagels than what you buy.\u00a0 Those store-bought ones that I would buy were on their way to 300 calories each!\u00a0 The ones I make are slighly smaller and only 88 calories!\u00a0 Whaaaaaat???\u00a0 That&#8217;s right, 88 \ud83d\ude09\u00a0 Anyhow, they&#8217;re easy to make, don&#8217;t let the boiling bath they take scare you away.\u00a0 It&#8217;s easy peasy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 c. water<\/li>\n<li>1 \u00bd teaspoon sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>3 cups all purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoons bread machine yeast<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Add\u00a0the ingredients in your break maker in the order listed above.\u00a0 Set to the dough setting and let the machine do all the hard work \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 When done, on a lightly floured surface, separate the dough into 16 even clumps.<\/p>\n<p>Roll into a ball and make a hole in the center with your thumb.\u00a0 Place on a greased sheet.\u00a0 Rub a little butter on the top of each one and let rise in a warm place for a half hour.<\/p>\n<p>The bath:\u00a0 Just before the bagels have finished rising, add 12 c. water to a dutch oven and 1 Tbsp. sugar.\u00a0 Bring to a boil.\u00a0 When the bagels are done with their rising, gently and carefully place as many that will fit into hot water bath and let them simmer for 2 min. and turn over in the water.\u00a0 Let the 2nd side simmer for about a minute.\u00a0 Carefully remove from water (slotted spoon works well) and place on a couple of paper towels to dry them a little.\u00a0 When they&#8217;ve dried a little (about a minute), place them back on the greased sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Bake in the oven for about\u00a020 min. on the center rack at\u00a0375 F.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Options:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I sprinkled course salt on almost half of them and cinnamon on the remaining ones.\u00a0 Get creative.\u00a0 sprinkle things on them!\u00a0 My next batches will be a little more fun as I plan to incorporate sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and some other tasty items.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll also be trying them with whole wheat flour.\u00a0 Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so I finally decided to try making bagels.\u00a0 OMG why haven&#8217;t I done this sooner????\u00a0 Seriously, I&#8217;m not buying my bagels ever again! \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 I like slightly smaller bagels than what you buy.\u00a0 Those store-bought ones that I would &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/?p=1294\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[45],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1294","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-breads-and-doughs"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1294","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1294"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1294\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1297,"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1294\/revisions\/1297"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1294"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1294"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/elainecarroll.ca\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1294"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
